About Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a complete system of medicine accepted all over the world as a safe and effective form of treatment.
It works by stimulating the flow of energy, or Qi, in your body by gently placing very fine, sterile needles into acupuncture points that lie just beneath the skin. Very simply, acupuncture moves energy in your body to restore balance and health – by either moving energy to an area that needs more energy, or by moving energy away from an area where there is too much.
When you are in good health, your energy is in complete balance and as a result the body presents no symptoms, as a symptom is your body’s way of letting you know that something is wrong. It is normal for symptoms to come and go, as every day, your body is challenged in one way or another. More often than not these are small challenges from which you can recover with ease, for example if you get a splinter it causes pain, but as soon as you remove the splinter the pain dissipates. However, every now and again, something more significant can occur, physically or emotionally, which may result in a more permanent, disruptive effect on how energy flows through your body, which in turn gives rise to symptoms.
In these circumstances acupuncture can help to re-establish equilibrium in the body. For more information on how acupuncture may be of benefit to you please have look at some of the studies available on the efficacy of acupuncture with regards to women’s health.
