POST NATAL

Acupuncture and the Post Natal Period

Congratulations – you have done it! Your bundle of well deserved joy is here!

Of course, you will love being a mother – it is amazing, but what might take you by surprise is how much hard work it can be. For some the post natal period is a time of adjustment which can be exhausting, overwhelming and quite lonely.

One of the causes of stress at this time is the expectations set in our society. In other cultures having a baby is acknowledged as the miraculous feat it is, and women are nurtured accordingly, but all too often in the West women are under an unseen pressure to be back up and running within weeks of having had a baby. Acupuncture treatment at this time can give you some time to yourself and help rebuild your energy.

I often treat women who are feeling anxious and exhausted, who need a little help and nurturing to point them in the right direction in this brave new world.

During these early weeks acupuncture treatment may offer you the support and guidance you need to help you look after yourself, and if necessary may address some issues that may arise:

  • insufficient milk
  • mastitis
  • insomnia
  • anxiety
  • depression
  • prolapse
  • urinary incontinence
  • low libido
  • tiredness

I work closely with other medical and complementary practitioners in this area to help new mums build a network of support so you can enjoy this wonderful but challenging period.
